Golden Lotus Flowers or Joka 常花

The lotus flowers are a symbol of Buddhism.  Most Buddhist temples have golden lotus flowers at their altars.  “Be not influenced by environment.  Lo, the lotus blossoms, never to be soiled by the muddy waters wherever it grows,” This phrase is referred to in Chapter 15 of the Lotus Sutra.

The lotus flower usually grows in high humidity and warmer temperatures. Rev. Shokai Kanai is still trying to raise lotus flowers in Las Vegas, the so called “sin city,” both as a physical lotus flowers and spiritual lotus flowers in the minds of people.
